New Place For Your Lost Of Found Pet

Wishes2send has a new category on the site where people can post a lost or found pet. All that is asked is that a $5.00 donation be made to Northern Spirit K9 Rescue Service. Please send a picture with a few details ie. Name of the dog (if lost), where lost or found and a contact email or phone number. The picture will be posted to the site for the world to see. Simply click the title of the Blog to see what a sample looks like on the site. Once on wishes2send go to select category on the right hand side of the page and at the bottom click where it says Pet Lost & Found.

Happy New Year - 2009

So what is your New Years Resolution? I haven't come up with one myself. I don't drink, don't smoke (gave that up about 5 years ago) and can't think of anything else I'd like to stop doing right now.
For those of you following the rescue series here is an update.
Just before it got really cold outside we were taken to a little puppy lying in the bush. She was almost dead at the time from having no food or water. Our vet was kind enough to stay back after hours and waited for us after we called him on our cellphone. His initial diagnoses was that he believed she had distemper and would not survive. After a few shed tears and asking questions we decided to place her on intervenous overnight to see what would happen. There are only two things that could happen in this case, she would live or she would die. Hope (this is the name that she was given) after spending a week in the clinic has since recovered and has been given a nice home on a farm with another dog. I had her at home with us for almost two weeks while she recovered and it broke my heart when the new owner came to get her. Picture if you can a little black Lab/Cross with two blue eyes. Hard not to fall in love with that.
Claudie rescued two litters of puppies over the past month along with one of the mothers. All went to the SPCA and have been adopted out. The people who owned her and the puppies asked us to take them. Temperatures at the time were around -30C. All the animals were left outside to fend for themselves without food or shelter of any kind.
Our newest boarder is a cute little Sheppard/Cross who we've named Ryley. He was a stray found with porcupine quills in his face and mouth almost a month ago. You'll notice I said newest boarder because Ryley is still with us. He and I are close (I am not sure how that happens) almost like finding a long lost friend.
Jessie, (one of our own) a Rotti managed to blow out his second knee just before Christmas. He has since had surgery and is recovering. If you're looking for a good surgeon in Edmonton or Calgary remember the name Western. These folks are good at what they do.
Claudie and I still go out on the weekends to feed the dogs. I believe we are feeding about 20 at this time. Seems like every time we go out we find another pack running around. It amazes me how these animals survive over the winter. Temperatures this year have been brutal. For the past few days it has been -30 to -45C. I was watching the news last night and they are calling for temperatures of -4C in the next few days. Wow a heatwave. The dogs will love that for sure.

Dog Rescue

Well here we are again. It's been a busy summer in Canada for Claudie (my wife) and I. Claudie started helping out taking care of animals on the Alexis reserve a few months ago. What started as simply going out to feed the dogs ended up becoming a rescue service. Her first rescue was a little black Lab. (Jake). He had been shot in the back leg and the leg had to be amputated. The dog is fine and has since found a lovely home. The cost to do the surgery was $1200.00. A surgery of this nature is worth a lot more but our vet knowing the animal was not Claudie's helped out by sharing some of the cost.
I started helping out shortly after this with the sole intent of simply driving out to the reserve once a week to help Claudie feed the dogs. Wasn't long before about seven of them decided that attacking a Porcupine would be fun. As you can imagine there were seven animals running around with a face full of Porcupine quills. Three of the dogs came to us and I'm thinking this was due to the friendship built up over the past few months feeding them and giving them water. We managed to get all three to our veterinarian and with a lot of TLC and drugs managed to make them all better. Two Vets pulled quills for 2 1/2 hours. Cost to do this was $350.00. We returned them back home the following day after the sedatives had worn off with the hopes that they had learned a valuable lesson when it comes to Porcupines. There are still a few that we are trying to find and with a little help from above maybe we can save them also.

*One of our goals this year is to Spay/Neuter as many of the K9s on the reserve that we can but we need your help to do this. Your donations would be greatly appreciated.

The site is now loaded with a lot of new features. Registered users can send voice messages with e-cards; create an album to upload photos, poems and music files; set up advanced address book; receive birthday reminder alerts; stay organized with card history and calendar; send out invitations and much more.

New Site Upgrades On Wishes2send

Wishes2send has a new look. The site will not have any banners and to help pay for the lack of advertising a small fee will be charged for those wishing to become a member. Cards can still be sent by those not joining as a member but limited access will be available to some of the features.
What's new to the site?

Sender can upload their own image or flash animation; music or sound files; poems; and more for custom e-cards

Forever A Happy New Year!

Another year gone by. So now what is the New Year resolution going to be? I quit smoking almost 3 years ago, cold turkey, now that was a blast. Up to almost 3 packs a day and spending way to much money for the fun I was having. Quit drinking almost 25 years only because I was a poor drunk and spent days apologizing to my friends for being such a jerk after drinking so I can't use that one. I could attempt to be a bit more friendlier to people who are obviously not from this part of the world, but that might be harder than the other two that I accomplished so far. Hummm, I don't smoke, don't drink and try not to chase women so what will it be?

How Much Time Until Christmas

How much longer do we wait for Christmas you ask. Well just click on the link above and you will end up on a countdown page for Christmas & The New Year. This is a niffty java script and seems to work well. Of course if your computer doesn't work with Java then the script won't work for you. No snow for the past couple of days up here in the North Pole, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They tell us we've had about 29cm. so far this year. That's not a record for snowfall but I believe it may be a record for how early it all came down. Today is actually nice with temperatures around freezing at 34F. Calling for warmer tomorrow and up above freezing should make for a nice mess on the roads. Oh ya, city of Edmonton doesn't believe in clearing snow off of most residential streets. Woopee is Ok with a 4X4. Enjoy your day and have a better evening.

Removing Bad Email From My List

I have had a debouncer installed on the site. What this nifty software does is removes boggus email addresses from my list. I lost about 2300 email addresses from my list using this software but at least I can feel a little better knowing that what is being sent out is actually going to a proper email address. We all know that nobody would go out of their way to enter a boggus address - right? I can only assume most of the addresses were left overs from people changing ISPs and the such over the past few years.

You can join my list by simply going to the link above and entering your name & email address. This is a list for receiving the message for the day. This message contains new cards, updates on the site and things like that.

Well, (big sigh) I was just wandering around the internet this evening attempting once again to figure out why WebTV users were not getting my daily message. I thought that maybe the ISP was blocked because they (WebTV) thought that I was sending out SPAM. Hey it could happen.... I couldn't find anything that would indicate this but did find an article where over the years WebTV has been having issues blocking legitimate sites. I don't believe there is anything I can do the resolve the issue at this time except to tell WebTV users to complain to their tech support people and see if anything happens. I did find an interesting site on the internet that does check sites for SPAM and the such. The link is at the top where the Title of the page is and if you care to look you will see how cardsforfun.com rated. I left my own comment as the owner of the site because I thought what these folks did and are doing is a kewl thing. It helps webmasters like myself show that SPAM is not being sent out and people can feel safe joining my list. With that thought in mind I believe it is time for me to get another daily message sent out.

It's Winter Again & That Sucks - But Santa Claus Still Loves You!

I was just sitting here the other day and kapow down comes a couple of inches or a few cm. of snow depending upon where you live. I am starting to hate this stuff more and more every year. I think if I go a long way back, I can find a time in my life where I actually enjoyed the snow but I don't think that back then I had to shovel the stuff. So my dilema is do I hate Snow or do I just hate shovelling it?

Oh well today it is not snowing but they (the weathermen/weatherladies) are calling for more. It's a balmy 25 degrees F with overcast skies right now.

What is a blog you ask? I know I sure did!

A blog is a web page made up of usually short, frequently updated posts that are arranged chronologically — like a what's new page or a journal. The content and purposes of blogs varies greatly — from links and commentary about other web sites, to news about a company/person/idea, to diaries, photos, poetry, mini-essays, project updates, even fiction.
Blog posts are like instant messages to the web.
Many blogs are personal, "what's on my mind" type musings. Others are collaborative efforts based on a specific topic or area of mutual interest. Some blogs are for play. Some are for work. Some are both.
Blogs are also excellent team/department/company/family communication tools. They help small groups communicate in a way that is simpler and easier to follow than email or discussion forums.
